Isla Contoy in the State of Quintana Roo is located at the confluence of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 30 kilometers north of Isla Mujeres. The island is only 8.5-Km in length and has a surface area of 317 hectares. Enjoy the numerous species of birds and beautiful white sand beaches and visit the new museum of nature.
Enter the magical underwater world with the help of your snorkeling equipment and see the amazing fauna in the sea depths; also, watch and learn about the diverse birds in their natural habitat with the help of an experienced guide.
Contoy is a special biosphere reserve with more than 70 species
of birds and other flora and fauna that are protected by the Mexican Government.
Isla Contoy offers rich and varied landscapes. While silky white beaches, dotted with tall palm trees and other exotic plants border its western coast, the eastern side, facing the open sea, is formed by calcareous rocks.
Exposed to strong winds , a small range of sand dunes blanketed by low vegetation rise up. Here grow, among other plants, sea lavender that emits a sweet aroma, the sea grape and the orange cordia. Inland, the lagoons, mangroves and low jungles are the refuge of 152 registered bird species that total more than 10,000 birds, an impressive amount for a such small area.
Along the way to the island, enter the magic of the underwater world through your snorkel mask in a guided underwater reef tour. Then continue to Contoy Island, a fragile environment where only 2 ships are authorized to dock each day.
INCLUDED: Guided tour, 35 minutes of guided snorkeling (weather permitting), snorkeling equipment, all day open bar, seafood salad and delicious fish BBQ Mayan style.
RECOMMENDATION: Bring a bathing suit, sunscreen and a towel.
